Locals consider Crystal's meticulously groomed snowboard facilities among the
best in the area. The Crystal Clipper, the fastest lift in the Midwest, is
located on the main slope. This quad chair can transport 2,400 skiers per hour.
Family-friendly, the resort offers a variety of youth programs and provides
child care for infants and toddlers. Guided snowshoe hikes, downhill,
cross-country and snowboarding instruction are available. Resort is host to
adaptive downhill clinics sponsored by Michigan Adaptive Sports and Recreation
Association and Munson Medical Center Rehabilitation Service Line. Comfortable,
contemporary lodging and three restaurants on site.
Driving Directions:
30 miles southwest of Traverse City. From Traverse City take US-31 south to
County Road 669. Follow 669 south to Thompsonville. Turn right at blinker light,
two miles to Crystal.

None This city-owned and operated family ski area offers a wonderful view of
both the East and West arms of the famed Grand Traverse Bay. It provides
affordable outdoor fun without leaving the city. Enjoy snacks and warm yourself
by the fireplace in the 1950s lodge. Open from 4 to 9 p.m. Monday through
Friday, from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday. Call for
holiday hours.

Shanty Creek is a full service resort encompassing two ski areas, the Summit and
Schuss Mountain. There are 600 rooms loaded with comfort and charm with
slopeside lodging available. Amenities include a fitness center and heated
indoor pool. Programs catering to children feature fun activities, sleigh rides,
tubing, lively entertainment and downhill, cross-country and snowboarding
instruction. Shanty Creek is considered one of the leading cross-country ski
resorts in the Midwest, offering marked Nordic trails for skiers of all skill
levels.
Driving Directions:
35 miles from Traverse City. From Traverse City take Munson Avenue to MI-72 and
turn left on Hill Road. Go one mile and turn left onto Rapid City Road which
becomes East Torch Lake Drive. Stay straight to go onto Alden Highway. Turn left
onto Comfort Road and turn left again onto M-88.

Situated within the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore Park, The Homestead
offers a gorgeous setting. Better Homes and Gardens ranked it among the top 20
family resorts in America. Visitors enjoy a variety of skiing options, downhill,
snowboard and cross country instruction. The resort has increased snowmaking
capacity for the 1999-2000 season and is renovating its children's facility. Two
restaurants and lodging are available on site.
Driving Directions:
Take M-72 west from Traverse City to Empire. Turn right and go a mile past Glen
Arbor on M-22. The resort is on the left.
